GNSS jammer prototype in an Indian electronics manufacturing facility.
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finalized a substantial deal worth ₹449 crore with Accord Software & Systems for the procurement of Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) jammers. This strategic acquisition is aimed at bolstering the navigation security capabilities of the Indian Navy.
The contract mandates that Accord Software & Systems will supply 20 units of these advanced GNSS jammers, with a significant emphasis on indigenous manufacturing, requiring a minimum of 75% local content. This directive aligns with the government’s broader objective of promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
GNSS jammers are critical electronic warfare systems designed to disrupt or block satellite-based navigation signals, such as those from GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and NavIC. In a maritime context, ensuring the integrity of navigation systems is paramount for operational effectiveness and safety. The procurement signifies a proactive step by the MoD to equip the Indian Navy with state-of-the-art technology to counter potential threats to satellite navigation, which could range from accidental interference to deliberate jamming by adversaries.
The deal underscores the growing investment in advanced defense technologies within India and highlights the MoD’s commitment to modernizing the country’s naval forces. The emphasis on indigenous content also points to the strengthening capabilities of Indian defense manufacturing firms like Accord Software & Systems in developing and producing complex electronic warfare systems.
