New vehicles displayed at an Indian car dealership
New Delhi, India – Passenger vehicle sales in India hit a record high in July, with manufacturers dispatching approximately 469,000 units to dealerships. This represents a significant 34% increase compared to the same period last year, surpassing the previous record of 460,000 units set in October.
The robust growth continues a positive trend observed since the beginning of the fiscal year, with sales increasing by 25% in April, 27% in May, and 24% in June. The latest figures encompass sales of all types of passenger vehicles, including cars, utility vehicles, vans, and electric cars.
Industry analysts attribute the surge to a combination of strong underlying consumer demand and the beneficial impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) cuts, which have made vehicle purchases more attractive. The sustained growth indicates a healthy automotive market and robust consumer spending in India.
