AMO Stal has successfully integrated nine AMO-S robots into the production line at the TREK auto parts plant in Miass, a move aimed at automating the processing of suspension components. This strategic automation initiative has directly addressed critical operational challenges, including human error during the blank loading phase, instances of empty machine runs, and costly downtime associated with part changes.
The implementation involved several key technological solutions. Protective nets and laser curtains were installed to mitigate risks associated with human intervention in the loading process. To prevent machines from running without parts due to operator oversight, sensors were integrated into the robot grippers, ensuring parts are accurately picked up before the CNC cycle begins.
Furthermore, machine idle time during part changeovers was substantially reduced through the deployment of a double rotary table system. This setup allows for continuous operation by enabling the robot to work on one table while the other is being prepared, extending the autonomous operation time of the CNC machines to between 30 and 40 minutes.
The project highlights the tangible benefits of production automation, where robots, free from fatigue and distraction, can achieve stable and predictable output. The successful collaboration between AMO Stal and TREK is set to continue, with plans to automate the processing of additional parts and further decrease retooling times, solidifying the plant’s competitive edge through advanced manufacturing technologies.
