Ola Electric is expanding its strategic focus beyond electric vehicles into the burgeoning field of utility-scale energy storage. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Axis Energy, a move that signals its intent to become a key player in India’s grid-scale energy solutions market.
Under the agreement, Ola Electric and Axis Energy will explore the deployment of up to 20 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage systems by 2032. This partnership represents the first major commercial collaboration for Ola’s upcoming ‘Mahashakti’ energy storage platform, which is slated for launch on August 15.
The initiative aims to address India’s rapidly growing demand for reliable and scalable energy storage solutions. As the country increasingly relies on renewable energy sources, the need for robust grid-scale storage becomes critical to ensure grid stability and manage intermittent power generation.
Ola Electric’s foray into this sector highlights a strategic diversification, leveraging its expertise in battery technology and manufacturing to tap into a new, high-growth market. The Mahashakti platform is expected to play a crucial role in supporting this expansion.
