Carbon capture and electric heating technology integrated into a cement plant in Gujarat, India.
Ambuja Cements, a key entity within the Adani Group, has announced a strategic collaboration with the United Kingdom-based Leilac Limited. This partnership is set to pilot an innovative, low-carbon cement production technology at Ambuja’s facility in Gujarat. The initiative will focus on testing Leilac’s proprietary carbon capture and electric heating technology, a move designed to substantially decrease both carbon emissions and energy consumption in cement manufacturing.
This project represents a significant step towards achieving Ambuja Cements’ ambitious net-zero targets by 2050. If the pilot proves successful, the Gujarat plant could be transformed into the world’s largest industrial-scale facility for carbon capture. This development underscores the growing trend of established industrial players investing in and adopting cutting-edge technologies to meet sustainability goals and navigate the evolving regulatory and market landscape.
