Pilots reviewing flight schedules and rest regulations in a late-night meeting.
A prominent pilots’ body has alerted India’s aviation regulator about potential flight safety risks stemming from the delayed implementation of crucial flight duty and rest rules. The Air Line Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA) has expressed strong concerns to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), arguing that ongoing relaxations granted to airlines are undermining established safety protocols.
ALPA is urging the DGCA to establish a clear roadmap for the definitive cessation of these temporary variations and to reinstate stringent rest regulations. The association also emphasized the need for enhanced transparency in the monitoring of pilot fatigue and health, citing recent operational disruptions as evidence of inadequate fatigue management systems.
The pilots’ body highlighted that the current situation, characterized by extended duty hours and insufficient rest periods, poses a significant threat to aviation safety. They are advocating for a robust framework that ensures the well-being of flight crew and upholds the highest standards of air travel safety across the country.
