Indian engineers assembling aerospace components for LEAP engines.
Safran Aircraft Engines, a global leader in aerospace propulsion, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uni Tritech, an Indian manufacturing company, to establish the production of components for the LEAP engine within India. This strategic agreement marks a significant step in bolstering India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and deepening its integration into the global aerospace supply chain.
The LEAP engine, a key product of CFM International – a joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace – powers a substantial portion of the world’s single-aisle commercial aircraft fleet. The MoU signals a commitment to expanding the manufacturing base for these high-demand engines, with a specific focus on leveraging India’s growing industrial prowess.
This collaboration is expected to enhance the ‘Make in India’ initiative, fostering technological transfer and creating skilled employment opportunities in the country’s advanced manufacturing sector. By bringing LEAP engine component production to India, Safran and Uni Tritech are positioning themselves to capitalize on the robust growth in the aviation industry, particularly in the single-aisle segment.
The partnership underscores a trend of global aerospace manufacturers increasingly looking towards India for strategic manufacturing partnerships, driven by factors such as cost-competitiveness, a skilled workforce, and government support for the sector. The agreement between Safran and Uni Tritech is anticipated to further solidify India’s role as a vital hub for aerospace component production on the global stage.
