Sameer Gandhi, former Visa finance head, now Cashfree Payments CFO, strategizes at his desk.
Fintech startup Cashfree Payments has appointed Sameer Gandhi, formerly the finance head at Visa, as its new chief financial officer. Gandhi will be responsible for steering the company’s financial strategy, improving financial operations, and revenue planning, with the goal of accelerating growth and achieving profitability in the coming quarters.
Gandhi brings over 25 years of experience to Cashfree, including his tenure at Visa since 2017, and previous roles at Vodafone, Citigroup, and CRISIL. According to Cashfree, Gandhi’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the company aims to enhance its financial performance. In FY25, Cashfree’s net loss increased by 14% to ₹154.1 Cr, while revenue remained flat at around ₹640 Cr.
Cashfree highlighted that Gandhi’s expertise will be crucial in leveraging the company’s recent acquisition of all three RBI payments licenses—payment aggregator (PA), cross-border (PA-CB), and prepaid payment instrument (PPI). The company noted this has already driven significant growth, particularly in its cross-border payments business, which has grown 250% year-over-year.
Vikas Guru, the current CFO, will support Gandhi during the transition period. Cashfree, founded in 2015, processes over $80 billion in annual transactions and serves more than 1 million businesses, including clients like Zomato, CRED, and Delhivery. The company has raised over $90 million from investors including KRAFTON, Y Combinator, and Smilegate Investment.
The appointment follows a recent penalty by the RBI for non-compliance with payment aggregator norms, during an inspection period between April 2024 and June 2025.
