Engineers in a control room monitor satellite data after India's policy shift.
Indian broadcasters have fully transitioned to using non-Chinese satellite operations following a government directive aimed at barring China-linked entities from providing services within India. This shift impacts satellite providers such as Chinasat and ApStar, which are now prohibited from offering services in the Indian market.
The directive also affects AsiaSat, a significant player in the region, which received a limited three-month extension for specific international and occasional use. The move has led broadcasters to migrate to local GSAT satellites and US-based Intelsat satellites, altering AsiaSat’s market share dynamics.
This transition underscores India’s strategic focus on securing its telecommunications infrastructure by reducing reliance on Chinese-affiliated services, reflecting broader geopolitical and economic considerations.
