Narendra Modi and a businesswoman inaugurate the Kaynes Semicon plant.
Kaynes Semicon has inaugurated its semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant step in India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The ₹3,300 crore (approximately $395 million USD) investment aims to bolster India’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the facility, emphasizing its role in making India a reliable semiconductor supplier. The Sanand plant has already commenced manufacturing power modules, making it India’s second operational semiconductor unit.
The plant is supplying Intelligent Power Modules to a California-based company, creating a direct link between Sanand and Silicon Valley. This initiative aligns with India’s strategy to enhance self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
The new facility is expected to significantly increase domestic chip packaging capacity, addressing a critical gap in India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The move is seen as a boost for the country’s efforts to integrate more deeply into the global semiconductor value chain.
