Engineers inspect equipment at the HPCL Rajasthan refinery, preparing for the crude unit restart.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has announced that its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at the Rajasthan refinery is slated for a restart in May. The unit was temporarily taken offline following a fire incident that occurred on April 20.
According to HPCL, post-incident investigations have confirmed that the fire was limited in scope. The company stated that the incident was confined to the heat exchanger stack, impacting only six exchangers and their associated auxiliary equipment. This assessment indicates that the damage was localized and did not cause widespread disruption to the refinery’s core operations beyond the affected components.
The timely restart of the CDU is crucial for refinery operations, as it is the primary unit responsible for separating crude oil into various fractions. The incident, while unfortunate, appears to have been managed effectively, with the company focusing on swift repairs and operational resumption.
