E2W surge in India, driven by Ola Electric's growth.
Electric two-wheeler (E2W) sales in India surged in March, totaling 1.78 lakh units, a 59% increase from February’s 1.12 lakh units, according to Inc42. This growth is attributed to rising energy concerns and strategic moves by key manufacturers.
TVS Motor led the market with a 47% month-on-month sales increase, reaching 46,859 units, boosted by its battery subscription model for the TVS iQube and the launch of the Orbiter V1 electric scooter. Bajaj Auto followed with a 68% sales growth to nearly 43,000 units, driven by its affordable Chetak variant.
Ather Energy recorded a 19% sales increase to 33,600 units, focusing on more affordable options, while Hero MotoCorp saw a 59% jump to 19,764 units with its battery-as-a-service model for the Vida range.
Ola Electric experienced a notable resurgence, climbing to the fifth position with a 139% increase in registrations to 9,500 units. This growth was supported by discounts of up to ₹50,000 and efforts to improve after-sales service, including a same-day service resolution facility and extended warranty options.
Seasonal sales, discounts, and rising fuel costs contributed to the increased demand for E2Ws. Ather offered benefits up to ₹20,000, while Revolt Motors saw an 80% sales increase after offering discounts up to ₹25,000. OEMs are also addressing charging infrastructure challenges, with Ather and Hero partnering with IPEC India to build a nationwide charging network.
