Powering states: Tata Power's new PPAs secure energy for multiple regions.
Tata Power’s Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd has entered into supplementary power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), ensuring continued power supply to Gujarat and other states. This move comes after the Mundra plant experienced operational suspensions since July 2, 2025, leading to financial setbacks.
The supplementary PPAs are expected to extend to Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, pending approvals. The Gujarat cabinet has already approved the PPA, and a government order has been issued to formalize the agreement.
The Mundra plant’s operations had been hampered, resulting in financial losses for Tata Power. These supplementary PPAs aim to revitalize the plant’s operations and secure power supply commitments from multiple states.
The agreements reflect a collaborative effort between Tata Power and state governments to address power supply challenges and ensure the viability of critical energy infrastructure. The financial terms of the PPAs were not disclosed.
