Indian defence manufacturing drive takes shape at NIBE Group's new complex.
NIBE Group is poised to inaugurate its substantial ₹3,000 crore defence manufacturing complex in Shirdi on May 23–24. This development underscores India’s increasing focus on bolstering its domestic defence production capabilities and attracting significant investment in the sector.
The new facility is expected to drive innovation and production in advanced defence technologies. The company’s current work includes the development of guided rockets, suicide drones, launch ammunition systems, and ship-mounted universal rocket launchers. Furthermore, NIBE Group is working on drones capable of operating at extended ranges of 100 km, 300 km, and 1,000 km, signaling a strategic move towards sophisticated, long-range aerial systems.
This investment by NIBE Group in a dedicated defence manufacturing hub aligns with broader government initiatives aimed at promoting self-reliance in defence (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and establishing India as a significant player in the global defence manufacturing landscape. The establishment of such complexes is crucial for fostering a robust ecosystem that supports research, development, and large-scale production of critical defence equipment, potentially attracting further private equity and venture capital interest in the Indian defence-tech sector.
