Engineers review plans amidst industrial equipment at a facility near a bustling port.
New Delhi, India – Thermax, a leading energy and environment solutions provider, has announced a strategic partnership with Ankur Scientific to establish India’s first green methanol plant. The facility, to be located at Deendayal Port in Gujarat, is set to produce up to 18,000 tonnes of green methanol per annum.
This initiative marks a significant step for India’s burgeoning green energy sector, addressing the projected national demand of 37,000 tonnes of green methanol. The collaboration leverages Thermax’s expertise in engineering and project execution with Ankur Scientific’s technological capabilities in methanol production.
The plant’s development is aligned with India’s broader goals for decarbonization and the transition towards sustainable fuels. Green methanol, produced from renewable sources, offers a cleaner alternative to conventional methanol and can be utilized in various applications, including as a feedstock for chemicals and as a potential fuel.
While specific investment figures and timelines for the project’s completion were not immediately disclosed, the partnership underscores a growing trend of industrial collaboration aimed at scaling up green technology solutions within India. The Deendayal Port location offers strategic advantages for logistics and raw material sourcing.
This venture is expected to contribute to import substitution and bolster India’s self-reliance in the production of critical green chemicals and fuels.
