Tech leaders discuss AI and robotics in a bustling Indian Superpark.
Bengaluru, India – Startup Bharat1.ai has launched a new AI Superpark in Bengaluru, a significant initiative aimed at retaining India’s top artificial intelligence talent and fostering the growth of domestic deeptech companies. The venture seeks to counter the prevalent ‘brain drain’ phenomenon where Indian AI experts often relocate to Western tech hubs.
Founded by Subhashish Banerjee, Umakant Soni, and Sireesh Kupendra, Bharat1.ai has developed a 500,000 sq ft AI innovation space designed to serve startups, academic institutions, and large enterprises. This facility is intended as the first phase of a larger plan to establish a 70-acre AI city.
The AI Superpark provides critical resources for AI and robotics companies, focusing on Agentic and Physical AI. Key partners include NVIDIA, Neysa, iSpirit, the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO), and the Security, Privacy & AI Research Centre. The park offers high-speed connectivity (up to 400 GBps) with minimal latency, crucial for the demanding computational needs of AI model training and deployment.
“With Bharat1, we are trying to resolve this imbalance,” stated a company representative. “Our pragmatic goal is that even if 10% of such companies could be retained in India, it would create a strong foundation and trigger a virtuous cycle of attracting more founders and investors over time.”
The initiative aims to consolidate talent, ecosystem support, capital access, and go-to-market strategies within a unified physical location, promoting collaboration and scale. The Superpark has already attracted over 25 startups since its February launch, with projections to host more than 60 in the coming months.
Notable tenants include NeuroDX, a startup developing AI-powered brain mapping for neurological disorder detection, and energy-focused startup Nuspark, which was incubated at Bharat1.ai.
The founding team brings extensive experience in AI ecosystems. Banerjee and Soni previously co-founded AI Foundry and ARTPARK, a non-profit initiative with IISc focused on nurturing AI and robotics startups from Indian academia. Soni also co-founded pi Ventures, an early-stage AI-focused venture fund. Kupendra contributes real estate expertise through his family’s RGA Infra.
Bharat1.ai plans to expand into a full-fledged AI City, envisioned to house 25,000 AI researchers and developers. This ambitious project aims to generate significant employment and position India as a global AI powerhouse. The company has reportedly made substantial investments in the Superpark, with earlier reports indicating an expected $650 million investment for the AI City development.
This development aligns with broader government initiatives across India, such as AI hubs planned in Lucknow, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam, aiming to centralize AI research, infrastructure, and commercial activities.
