Man meticulously packages counterfeit medicine in a dim, cluttered workshop.
Gurugram authorities have exposed a significant counterfeit Mounjaro operation, leading to the seizure of fake diabetes and weight loss injections with an estimated market value of ₹70 lakh. The illicit operation was allegedly masterminded by Avi Sharma, who is reported to have procured raw materials from China.
The investigation revealed critical discrepancies in the packaging of the counterfeit drugs, alongside noticeable typographical errors, which ultimately aided in their identification. These flaws underscore the challenges in combating the proliferation of fake pharmaceuticals.
Sharma has been arrested in connection with the case. The motive behind the production of these illicit drugs is reported to be financial gain, with Sharma aiming to increase his income through this fraudulent activity.
The discovery highlights ongoing concerns about counterfeit medicines in the market, particularly for high-demand drugs used for chronic conditions like diabetes and weight management. Regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies continue to work on combating such operations to protect public health and ensure the integrity of pharmaceutical products.
