Government officials and engineers discussing aerospace components in a Telangana manufacturing facility.
Hyderabad: Telangana is rapidly emerging as a key hub for engineering exports, driven by its burgeoning aerospace and defense manufacturing sector. A recent Central Government report highlights a remarkable 117.9% growth in the state’s engineering exports between 2023-24 and 2024-25, positioning it fourth nationally.
The surge is attributed to the increasing production and export of aircraft components, defense equipment, and industrial machinery. Engineering goods now constitute 38.44% of Telangana’s total exports, marking a significant shift from its traditional reliance on pharmaceutical exports.
Exports have jumped from $1.827 billion in 2022-23 to a projected $7.536 billion by 2024-25, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 103%. This contrasts sharply with the average growth rate of approximately 10% among southern states during the same period.
Hyderabad has attracted major global corporations, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Airbus, Safran, GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, and Honeywell. These companies have established manufacturing and research centers, transforming the city into a crucial hub for aerospace components and precision engineering.
The Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics notes that heightened production in these sectors has been instrumental in boosting exports, propelling Telangana from eighth to fourth place in engineering exports within a year.
The state government is actively promoting industrial growth through initiatives like the proposed ‘Bharat Future City’ and a three-zone development model focusing on services, manufacturing, and agriculture, anticipating continued positive momentum in the coming years.
