The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced that cash transactions will no longer be accepted at toll plazas nationwide starting April 10. This initiative mandates the use of digital payment methods to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Under the new system, vehicles equipped with FASTag will experience seamless toll payments. However, vehicles without FASTag will be required to pay 1.25 times the standard toll amount, which can be processed via UPI. The ministry has also indicated that additional penalties will be applied for non-compliance.
The move towards cashless tolling is expected to enhance efficiency, minimize disputes, and provide smoother passage for commuters across the country’s highways. By eliminating cash transactions, the ministry aims to modernize the toll collection process and improve the overall transportation experience.
