Digital creator from rural India producing content with a smartphone.
By 2025, a substantial shift is anticipated in India’s digital creator landscape, with 66 percent of creators expected to originate from non-metro regions. Despite this numerical dominance, a significant portion of these creators grapple with financial precarity, often earning less than the average urban salary. This disparity is particularly acute among nano and micro-creators, who constitute over 80 percent of this demographic.
Several factors contribute to the limited earning potential of creators in these regions. Low audience purchasing power, a common characteristic in non-metro areas, directly impacts revenue streams. Furthermore, challenges related to content quality and restricted access to professional agency representation hinder their ability to monetize their work effectively. This situation highlights a critical divide in India’s rapidly growing digital economy, where geographical location significantly influences financial outcomes for content creators.
