Pilots and investigator in a Boeing 787 simulator cockpit
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has formally requested the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to conduct simulator tests on the Boeing 787 (B787) aircraft. This action is aimed at verifying specific aspects of the AI171 plane crash, which occurred in 2025.
The pilots’ group specifically seeks to examine the potential link between the deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) and the movement of the fuel control switch. This inquiry follows the interim report released by the AAIB concerning the Air India Dreamliner crash.
FIP intends to use these simulator tests to independently scrutinize the acceleration data recorded during the incident and to better understand the relationships between various aircraft systems. The objective is to ensure a thorough and accurate investigation into the factors contributing to the crash.
