Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has announced a price increase for compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped cooking gas across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Effective Saturday, CNG prices will rise by Rs 2 per kilogram, while piped cooking gas rates will increase by 50 paise per unit.
The company cited rising gas procurement costs as the primary reason for these adjustments. This hike is expected to impact millions of households that rely on piped gas for cooking and thousands of public transport vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and taxis, that use CNG as fuel. Consequently, there are renewed demands for increases in auto and taxi fares to offset the higher fuel expenses for operators.
