The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed new rules aimed at increasing the availability of voice and SMS-only plans. The proposal seeks to ensure that telecom operators provide options for users who do not require data services.
Under the proposed regulations, telecom companies would be required to offer voice and SMS-only plans across all validity periods. This initiative is intended to cater to users whose primary needs are voice communication and text messaging.
The new plans are expected to be more affordable than bundled offers that include data services, making them an attractive option for a segment of the population. TRAI is seeking comments on the proposal until April 28.
The move is designed to broaden the choices available to consumers and ensure that those who do not need data services are not compelled to pay for them. Telecom operators will need to offer voice and SMS-only options for every bundled plan.
