Mahindra's rise in the Indian PV market
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has ascended to the position of the second-largest passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturer in India for FY26, according to recent reports. This shift in the competitive landscape sees M&M surpassing Hyundai Motor India and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., signaling a notable change in the Indian automotive sector.
The company’s success is attributed to its robust performance in the SUV segment, which has gained considerable traction among Indian consumers. While Maruti Suzuki remains the market leader, M&M’s ascent reflects evolving consumer preferences and strategic product positioning.
Overall passenger vehicle sales in India reached a new high of 47 lakh units in FY26, underscoring the growth and potential of the Indian automotive market. M&M’s ability to capitalize on this growth, particularly through its SUV offerings, has been pivotal in its rise to the number two spot.
