Experts discuss MSMEs in India's defence ecosystem at a professional summit.
At the ET Deftech Summit 2026, experts emphasized the need to integrate Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into the core of India’s defence ecosystem to achieve self-reliance. Panellists highlighted that procurement reform, order visibility, and deeper supply chain integration are critical factors for scaling MSMEs in defence manufacturing.
The discussion centered on how strategic policy changes and improved operational frameworks could facilitate greater participation of MSMEs in the aerospace and defence sectors. By prioritizing these enterprises, India aims to reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers and bolster domestic production capabilities.
Key recommendations included streamlining procurement processes to make them more accessible for smaller companies, enhancing order visibility to enable better planning and resource allocation, and fostering deeper integration within the supply chain to ensure seamless coordination and efficient production.
The experts noted that these measures are essential for creating a robust and self-sufficient defence industry, which aligns with the government’s broader ‘Make in India’ initiative. The focus on MSMEs is expected to drive innovation, create jobs, and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth.
