Indian Regional Rural Bank official demonstrates digital services to a customer.
Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in India have been strongly advised to expedite the adoption of modern technology and digital services. This directive comes at a time when these institutions have achieved an all-time high net profit of ₹10,176 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Sponsor banks, which play a crucial role in supporting RRBs, are expected to actively assist these regional entities in enhancing their Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. The call for accelerated digital adoption aims to further strengthen the operational efficiency and service delivery capabilities of RRBs.
The overall business volume across all 28 RRBs has now surpassed the significant milestone of ₹13.5 lakh crore, indicating substantial growth and increasing relevance of these banks in India’s financial landscape. The push towards technological advancement is seen as critical for sustaining this growth trajectory and ensuring competitiveness in an increasingly digital banking environment.
