Telecommunications tower overlooks busy urban street in Africa.
Bharti Airtel has significantly expanded its economic interest in its African subsidiary, Airtel Africa, by raising its stake to approximately 79 percent. The strategic move was executed through a cashless share-swap transaction valued at Rs 28,200 crore (approximately $3.3 billion USD based on current exchange rates).
The transaction involved promoter group entity ICIL, enhancing Bharti Airtel’s direct control and financial participation in the fast-growing African market. This stake increase is underpinned by the company’s strong growth projections for Airtel Africa, which is anticipated to reach $10 billion in revenue.
This strategic consolidation is expected to unlock substantial returns for Bharti Airtel, aligning its ownership with the subsidiary’s significant growth potential in the dynamic African telecommunications landscape.
