India Proposes Rules for Higher Ethanol Fuel Recognition
India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is set to introduce new regulations that will formally recognize higher ethanol fuel blends, such as E85 and E100, along with B100 biodiesel, within the country’s vehicle emission testing and certification framework. This initiative, detailed under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, aims to streamline the integration of these advanced biofuels into the automotive sector.
The proposed changes signify a move towards formalizing the use and regulation of alternative fuels that have the potential to reduce reliance on conventional fossil fuels and lower vehicular emissions. While the announcement focuses on regulatory updates, it is expected to have implications for fuel producers, automotive manufacturers, and consumers interested in more sustainable transportation options.
