India's Commerce Ministry discusses India-US trade performance in New Delhi.
New Delhi: India’s Commerce Ministry is set to convene a critical meeting with key industry associations and export promotion councils on September 1 to deliberate on the performance of India-US trade. The session, chaired by Additional Secretary Darpan Jain, who also serves as India’s chief negotiator for the bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the US, aims to consolidate strategies ahead of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to the United States later in September.
Minister Goyal is scheduled to attend the G-20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee, beginning September 30, and will hold bilateral discussions with United States Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer. The United States is slated to assume the G20 presidency in 2026, adding significance to these upcoming engagements.
The impending meeting is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of recent trade trends and sector-wise performance between India and the United States. Discussions are expected to cover emerging developments in bilateral trade relations, with representatives from crucial sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, textiles, agriculture, chemicals, marine products, leather, and automobiles anticipated to participate.
