India’s oil imports from Russia experienced a significant surge in March, jumping 90% according to a report in the Economic Times. This increase occurred against a backdrop of overall oil import decreases, driven by supply chain challenges emanating from West Asia.
Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, have specifically impacted India’s access to LPG and LNG. These disruptions have compelled India to actively seek alternative sources to secure its energy needs, signaling a strategic shift in procurement.
In response to these challenges, India has also increased its oil imports from African nations, diversifying its supply base to mitigate risks associated with reliance on specific regions.
