Wind turbines operating in a rural agricultural landscape in Andhra Pradesh.
India’s burgeoning renewable energy sector is witnessing robust activity, marked by substantial investments in both wind power and biomass-based energy solutions. This dual growth trajectory underscores the nation’s commitment to expanding its clean energy capacity.
In a significant development for the wind energy segment, Suzlon has secured a contract to supply and install 64 wind turbines. These turbines will power a new 202MW wind energy project in Andhra Pradesh, developed by Waaree Forever Energies. This partnership highlights the ongoing expansion of large-scale wind power infrastructure across the country.
Simultaneously, the biomass sector is attracting venture capital. Farm Watt, a biotech startup, has successfully raised ₹32.5 crore (approximately $3.3 million) in a funding round co-led by India Angel Networks’ VC. This capital infusion is earmarked for expanding Farm Watt’s biomass collection network, which is crucial for the production of Compressed Biogas (CBG). This investment signals growing interest in innovative, decentralized energy solutions derived from agricultural waste.
These developments collectively point to a dynamic and diversifying renewable energy landscape in India. The successful closure of deals in both utility-scale wind power and early-stage biomass technology demonstrates a healthy appetite for clean energy investments across different segments of the market.
