Bihar’s rail infrastructure is set to receive a substantial boost with a record allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for the fiscal year 2027 (FY27). This significant investment, announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, underscores a strategic focus on enhancing the region’s connectivity and operational capacity.
The allocated funds are earmarked for various critical infrastructure upgrades across Bihar’s rail network. Among the key developments, a new express train service will be introduced, connecting Chapra directly with the national capital, Delhi. This move is expected to improve passenger mobility and stimulate economic activity between these regions.
Furthermore, the announcement highlighted the growing manufacturing capabilities within Bihar, noting that locomotives produced in the state are now being exported. This signifies a maturing industrial base and a contribution to India’s manufacturing export ambitions.
Currently, projects worth an estimated Rs 1.15 lakh crore are in various stages of execution within Bihar, indicating a sustained and large-scale development effort. To further augment capacity, Patna Junction is slated to receive five new platforms, addressing potential bottlenecks and improving train handling efficiency.
This substantial financial commitment positions Bihar as a key beneficiary of national rail development initiatives, aiming to modernize its transportation network and foster economic growth through improved logistics and connectivity.
