Proterial rare earth magnet plant construction site, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Japanese company Proterial is making a significant investment in India’s burgeoning manufacturing sector by establishing a rare earth magnet plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company plans to invest ₹2,250 crore (approximately $27 million USD) in the new facility, which will focus on producing critical components essential for the electric vehicle (EV) and wind turbine industries.
This strategic move by Proterial is poised to strengthen India’s domestic rare earth value chain. The establishment of this plant is expected to reduce the country’s reliance on external sources, particularly China, for these vital materials. The investment underscores a growing trend of international companies looking to diversify their supply chains and tap into India’s expanding industrial capabilities.
The facility in Andhra Pradesh will not only enhance local manufacturing prowess but also contribute to India’s broader economic development by creating jobs and fostering technological advancement in the critical minerals and advanced manufacturing sectors. This investment aligns with India’s ambitions to become a global hub for green energy technologies and advanced manufacturing.
