Consumer observes Apple product pricing in a retail store in India.
Apple has implemented price increases on several key products in India, including iPads and MacBooks, citing significant global increases in memory and storage component costs. iPhones have not been affected by these price adjustments.
The price hikes, which range from 14% to 88% across affected products, were reflected on Apple’s online store after a brief period of downtime. The company stated that the consumer electronics industry is facing unprecedented challenges, with the rapid expansion of AI data centers creating an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage, leading to substantial component price increases.
Consequently, the entry-level MacBook now costs INR 79,900, up from INR 69,900. The MacBook Pro 14-inch has seen a significant rise to INR 2.39 Lakh from INR 1.69 Lakh. In the iPad lineup, the base model price increased by INR 15,000 to INR 34,900. The iPad Mini now costs INR 49,900 (a INR 20,000 increase), and the 13-inch iPad Pro (M5) is priced at INR 1.29 Lakhs, reflecting a INR 70,000 hike.
Home entertainment devices also saw price adjustments. The HomePod Mini’s price increased by INR 5,000 to INR 15,900, and the HomePod is now INR 44,900, up by INR 12,000. The Apple TV 4K, in its 64 GB and 128 GB variants, now costs INR 25,900 and INR 31,900, respectively, compared to their previous prices of INR 14,900 and INR 16,900.
This move follows Apple CEO Tim Cook’s recent comments about the inevitability of price increases due to rising chip costs. The demand for RAM and NAND flash for AI data centers is reportedly diverting supply from consumer electronics, leading to cost inflation for manufacturers like Apple. Microsoft has also raised prices for its Xbox consoles due to similar hardware cost pressures.
The price adjustments are expected to impact Apple India’s financial performance as it continues to expand its retail presence in the country. Apple has reported strong growth in India, with double-digit growth in Mac revenue and strong iPad sales in the recent quarter.
