Liquor companies challenge Maharashtra policy in court.
Major liquor companies, including Bacardi and United Spirits, have filed a petition in the Bombay High Court challenging a new policy implemented by the Maharashtra government. The policy is under scrutiny for allegedly favoring a select group of manufacturers producing Maharashtra Made Liquor (MML).
The petitioners argue that the policy creates an uneven playing field, giving MML manufacturers an undue advantage over other players in the market. This, they claim, distorts competition and negatively impacts their business operations within the state.
The Bombay High Court is expected to hear the case soon. The outcome could have significant implications for the liquor industry in Maharashtra, potentially leading to revisions in the policy to ensure fair competition among all manufacturers.
