India's CCI approves Coursera-Udemy merger.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has given its nod to the merger between Coursera’s subsidiary, Chess Merger Sub, and Udemy Inc., according to a recent announcement. This all-stock transaction, estimated at approximately USD 2.5 billion, will result in Udemy becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coursera.
Under the terms of the agreement, existing Coursera shareholders are slated to hold approximately 59% of the combined entity, while Udemy stockholders will own the remaining 41%. The merger signifies a major consolidation in the online education sector, potentially intensifying competition and innovation in the space.
The deal reflects the ongoing trend of established online education platforms seeking to expand their market presence and service offerings through strategic mergers. By integrating Udemy’s resources and user base, Coursera aims to strengthen its position in the global online learning market.
