People queuing for LPG cylinders in India amid supply concerns.
The Indian government has issued an urgent appeal to state governments to take proactive measures in managing the supply and distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The directive comes amid growing concerns over potential disruptions and price volatility in the energy markets, exacerbated by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Central government officials emphasized the critical need for state authorities to prevent hoarding and black market activities related to cooking gas. The government is encouraging states to provide daily updates to citizens regarding the availability and pricing of LPG, aiming to enhance transparency and prevent panic buying.
In addition to monitoring and enforcement, the central government is also promoting the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to reduce reliance on LPG cylinders. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify energy sources and enhance energy security.
The government’s proactive stance reflects concerns about the potential impact of international conflicts on domestic energy supplies. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is closely monitoring global energy markets and coordinating with state governments to ensure a stable and affordable supply of cooking gas for households across the country.
