Workers weld a Vande Bharat train prototype in an Indian factory.
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), through its joint venture, is set to launch a prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train within the next year. According to the Railway Board CEO, the joint venture is tasked with manufacturing 120 of the 260 planned Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance India’s railway infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed to offer enhanced comfort and efficiency for long-distance travel, marking a significant upgrade from existing railway offerings.
The project underscores the Indian government’s focus on developing indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the railway sector. By partnering with RVNL, the government aims to leverage the company’s expertise in railway project development and execution.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains is expected to improve passenger experience and boost the railway sector’s contribution to India’s economy. The manufacturing of these trains domestically will also support job creation and technological advancement in the country.
