Delhi’s new electric vehicle policy introduces significant incentives for electric car buyers. According to the draft, electric cars priced at or below Rs 30 lakh will be exempt from road tax and registration fees until March 2030.
The policy also extends benefits to strong hybrid electric vehicles, which will receive a 50 percent exemption. A key provision of the policy stipulates that starting in 2027, only electric three-wheelers will be registered in Delhi.
The Delhi government’s initiative aims to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the city. By reducing the upfront costs associated with purchasing EVs, the policy seeks to make them more accessible to a wider range of consumers.
The broader objective of the policy is to improve air quality in Delhi by reducing emissions from gasoline-powered vehicles. The transition to electric mobility is seen as a crucial step in creating a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.
