Officials discuss vehicle emissions beside a CNG auto-rickshaw on a busy Indian street under a "Clean India" billboard.
New emission rules for cars, buses, and trucks are anticipated to take effect in India starting in 2027, with the introduction of Bharat Stage VII (BS-VII) norms. These updated regulations will target a broader range of pollutants, aiming for stricter emission control across vehicle types.
In addition to the BS-VII norms, the government is also considering establishing minimum endurance standards for electric vehicle batteries. This initiative seeks to improve both the lifespan and overall performance of batteries as the adoption of electric vehicles continues to grow throughout India.
The focus on battery endurance reflects the increasing importance of electric vehicles in the country’s transportation landscape. By setting clear benchmarks for battery performance, the government aims to support the long-term viability and efficiency of electric mobility solutions.
