The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has commenced consultations regarding the regulation of streaming television services, following a reference from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). This initiative aims to establish a more equitable competitive landscape between streaming platforms and conventional cable and Direct-to-Home (DTH) service providers.
TRAI’s move is intended to address existing regulatory disparities and enhance consumer protection within the rapidly evolving streaming sector. The regulator has identified several gaps that warrant attention to ensure fair market practices and safeguard the interests of viewers.
As part of the consultation process, TRAI is inviting comments and feedback from industry stakeholders on the proposed regulatory framework. This input will be crucial in shaping the final guidelines and policies governing streaming services in India.
