Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have halted two Qatari LNG tankers, identified as Al Daayen and Rasheeda, as they attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz. This action occurred despite a prior agreement with the United States, facilitated through Pakistani mediation, which was intended to ensure the vessels’ safe passage.
Sources indicate that the LNG tankers subsequently altered their course as a result of the intervention. The disruption is expected to have consequences for global LNG flows and will likely affect Qatar’s export capabilities.
Qatar’s export capacity has already experienced a 17% reduction due to previous Iranian attacks, further exacerbating concerns about the stability of LNG supplies in the region.
