McDonald’s is shifting gears in response to changing consumer habits. The fast-food giant is rolling out a revamped McValue menu nationwide on April 21, signaling a strategic move away from higher prices that have impacted its middle-class customer base.
The new McValue menu includes 10 items under $3 and a $4 breakfast bundle, emphasizing predictable, everyday low prices rather than relying on app-only digital coupons. This approach aims to recapture commuters and shift workers who depend on McDonald’s as part of their daily routines.
Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer for McDonald’s USA, stated that the company is committed to delivering great value and making it easier for customers to get the value they’re looking for, offering more choice and flexibility.
The under-$3 offerings will be available daily, with select entrée favorites spotlighted at lower prices for a limited time nationwide. For example, the Sausage McMuffin will cost $1.50, and the McDouble will be priced at $2.50. The $4 breakfast meal deal options include a Sausage McMuffin or biscuit served with a hash brown and a small coffee.
McDonald’s will continue offering its $5 and $6 lunch and dinner meal deals, which include a four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fry, and small fountain drink.
Store owner-operator and OPNAD Chair Scott Rodrick noted that this evolution of McValue builds on what fans already love, providing more options that fit their lives, routines, and budgets.
This move comes as the fast-food industry faces a “CEO war,” with competitors like Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King cutting prices to attract discretionary spending amid U.S. inflation.
McDonald’s prices have risen sharply post-pandemic, drawing social media attention. A viral graphic compared current prices to those in 1991, highlighting the increased costs.
The company has previously used its $5 meal deal, holiday promotions, and the Monopoly sweepstakes to drive traffic. These strategies have been successful, with U.S. sales rising 6.8% in the fourth quarter.
McDonald’s recently ranked No. 10 on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 annual list, marking its first Top 10 appearance since 2020.
