Magnum Ice Cream's strategic acquisition in India.
Magnum Ice Cream Netherlands has acquired a 61.9% stake in Kwality Wall’s (India) Ltd (KWIL), securing majority control of the company. The transaction, executed through a Share Purchase Agreement initiated in June 2025, marks a strategic shift in KWIL’s ownership structure.
With this acquisition, Magnum Ice Cream Netherlands becomes the new promoter of KWIL. Consequently, the outgoing promoters, including Unilever, have been reclassified as public shareholders, according to a statement released by the company.
In addition to the change in ownership, KWIL announced the appointment of Abhijit Bhattacharya as Chairman and Non-Executive Director. Simultaneously, Ritesh Tiwari has resigned from his position on the board.
The acquisition positions Magnum Ice Cream to leverage KWIL’s existing market presence and infrastructure in India, potentially intensifying competition in the region’s frozen dessert market. This move aligns with Magnum Ice Cream’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in high-growth emerging markets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
