Modern locomotives at a Banaras Locomotive Works facility at dusk.
Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has reported a record annual output of 572 locomotives in the fiscal year 2025-26, according to a recent announcement by Railways. This milestone represents a 20% increase over the previous year’s production, underscoring the facility’s growing role in India’s railway manufacturing capabilities.
The enhanced output includes a mix of modern electric locomotives, Amrit Bharat locomotives, and diesel locomotives, catering to both domestic and export markets. This diversified production reflects BLW’s adaptability to evolving market demands and its commitment to technological advancement in locomotive engineering.
This achievement not only highlights the technical expertise and dedication of the Banaras Locomotive Works team but also signifies the increasing modernization and capacity expansion within India’s railway sector. The boost in production capacity positions BLW as a key player in meeting the growing demand for railway infrastructure, both domestically and internationally.
The increased output is expected to support the expansion and upgrading of India’s railway network, facilitating more efficient transportation of goods and passengers. Furthermore, the export of locomotives contributes to India’s foreign exchange earnings and strengthens its position as a competitive player in the global railway market.
