India's enhanced defense capabilities with new procurements.
India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved defense procurement proposals worth ₹2.38 lakh crore (approximately $28.6 billion), signaling a significant push to modernize the country’s military capabilities. The approvals cover acquisitions for the Army, Air Force (IAF), and Coast Guard, focusing on enhancing multi-domain capabilities, mobility, surveillance, and operational readiness.
The acquisitions include air defense systems, transport aircraft, drones, artillery, and coastal assets. These procurements aim to bolster India’s defense infrastructure and operational effectiveness across its services. The DAC, which is the highest decision-making body in the Ministry of Defence, plays a crucial role in shaping India’s defense acquisition strategy.
Among the notable systems included in the approval is the S-400 air defense system, which is expected to significantly enhance India’s air defense capabilities. The procurement also encompasses various platforms and systems designed to improve the surveillance capabilities of the armed forces and the Coast Guard.
This move reflects India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities amid evolving geopolitical dynamics. The focus on indigenous defense production aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
