Businessman Marcus Lemonis has questioned the claim made by Florida Democrat Emily Gregory that President Donald Trump played no role in her recent election victory. Lemonis suggested that it stretches credibility to believe voters weren’t considering Trump.
During an appearance on “Varney & Co.,” Lemonis reacted to Gregory’s remarks on MS Now’s “Ana Cabrera Reports,” stating, “I didn’t appreciate the disingenuous nature of it.”
In her interview, Cabrera asked Gregory, who flipped a Republican-held Florida district that includes Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, about the president’s influence on voters. Gregory responded that the issue had been largely absent from her conversations with constituents.
Gregory stated that affordability was the primary concern for voters. “They’re focused on their lives, they’re focused on the absolute crushing cost of goods, the squeeze they are feeling. That’s what I heard every single day at the door, not the most famous constituent down the road,” she said.
Lemonis expressed disbelief, acknowledging affordability as a major concern but arguing that it’s hard to believe Trump wasn’t part of the discussion. He stated, “Affordability is an issue… but to create this idea that nobody’s talking about the President of the United States, regardless of whose party, it just feels like she’s almost trying to make him a non-event.”
Lemonis also cautioned that Republicans need a “very clear message” on the issue for the upcoming midterms. He advised Trump to acknowledge the reality of the issue, saying, “Listen, we need to stop exaggerating that this is the greatest economy we’ve ever seen and that there [are] no problems out there.’ And we need to say to people. ‘Listen, there’s a lot of things that we’re doing right, and there are a number of things that are not happening as well as they should be, and here’s what I’m gonna do about it.'”
Lemonis concluded that Americans dislike being told everything is fine when they know it’s not, regardless of their political affiliation.
