Adani Group's data center vision with Google and Meta
Adani Group is reportedly in discussions with tech giants Meta and Google to forge partnerships for its data center ventures, signaling a major push in India’s burgeoning digital infrastructure landscape.
The conglomerate is also engaging with Walmart-owned Flipkart as it scouts locations nationwide for these facilities, according to a Bloomberg report. This move aligns with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani’s recent announcement of a $100 billion investment in India’s sovereign AI infrastructure by 2035, focusing on renewable energy-powered data centers.
In October 2023, AdaniConneX, a joint venture between Adani Group and Google, revealed plans to establish India’s largest AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam, backed by a $15 billion investment. The new facility is poised to be Google’s most significant data center outside the United States.
The push for data center development in India is fueled by increasing AI adoption and readily available land. Economic Survey 2024-25 projects India’s data center market to reach $11.6 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 10.98% from $4.5 billion in 2023.
Other significant players are also expanding their data center presence in India. OpenAI is considering a 1 GW capacity data center, potentially in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Reliance plans a 3 GW facility in Jamnagar and a 1 GW project in Visakhapatnam, with investments exceeding $11 billion. Amazon intends to invest $12.7 billion in cloud infrastructure in India through 2030.
