Modern hospital ward in Delhi with medical staff.
Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure received a modest boost in 2025-26 with the addition of 1,288 hospital beds, primarily in Delhi government hospitals, according to the Economic Survey. This expansion aims to address the rising demand for healthcare services in the region.
The survey highlighted future plans to add over 15,400 beds through new and remodelled facilities. This significant increase in capacity is expected to enhance the city’s ability to handle a growing patient load and improve overall healthcare delivery.
In addition to bed expansion, Delhi’s emergency response efficiency has improved, with over 5 lakh emergency calls handled in 2025. The improved response times and coordination are crucial for managing critical healthcare situations effectively.
The Economic Survey also noted a significant decline in vector-borne diseases, indicating successful public health interventions. This reduction contributes to a healthier population and reduces the strain on healthcare resources.
These developments reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen Delhi’s healthcare system, ensuring better access and quality of care for its residents. The focus on expanding infrastructure and improving emergency response aligns with the city’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges and promoting public health.
