Legal challenge in corporate acquisition.
Vedanta Group has filed an appeal with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) challenging the National Company Law Tribunal’s (NCLT) approval of Adani Group’s bid to acquire Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. The NCLT had previously sanctioned Adani Enterprises Ltd’s Rs 14,535 crore offer for the acquisition.
Lenders to Jaiprakash Associates had approved Adani’s resolution plan in November of the previous year. Vedanta Group was also a contender for acquiring the company, making this a contested acquisition.
The appeal introduces uncertainty into Adani’s acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates, potentially impacting the valuation and restructuring process. The NCLAT’s decision will be critical for both Adani and Jaiprakash Associates, as well as for the lenders involved.
